2005’s You Could Have It So Much Better did not set the world alight, but it gathered the band plenty of favorable reviews and scored another hit with the pogo-ready “Do You Want To”.
But when it comes to major label acts that can potentially drive the stock price of a media conglomerate? It’s almost unheard of. If you follow indie rock or jazz, releasing albums quickly is par for the course. Then Franz Ferdinand did the unthinkable they released their sophomore album the following calendar year. The album received excellent reviews, and their songs were getting stuck in everyone’s head. “I say, don’t you know? / You say, you don’t know / I say, take me out!” It wasn’t much, but it did the trick. Their first album caught everyone’s attention instantly thanks to the singles “Darts of Pleasure” and “Take Me Out”, the latter finding its way into many outlets of American media, including commercials. One band that did its best to muscle through all the discouraging calls of “one-hit wonders!” and “copy cats!” was the Scottish band Franz Ferdinand. Regardless of how some legends may have felt, fame and fortune came calling and did their best to separate the wheat from the chaff. "Netflix Unveils Enigmatic 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' Opening Credits Sequence". The music video, directed by Stylewar, echoes the style of 1920s-era Soviet art and propaganda ( Constructivism etc.), including Cyrillic lettering, and shows the members of the band spreading a world-wide "hypnosis epidemic".Īll tracks were written by Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy except "Missing You", written by Kapranos. In the same country, it was ranked number 29 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2004. In Australia, the song was released as a CD single and reached number 62 on the ARIA Singles Chart.

In the United States and the United Kingdom, the song was released as a radio and download single, respectively, reaching number 17 on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and number eight on the UK Download Chart. In 2022, the Rich Costey version of the song was selected as the intro song to the Cyberpunk 2077 tie-in anime from Studio Trigger, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. "This Fire" was Franz Ferdinand's standard set closer until July 2009, when it was replaced with " Lucid Dreams". The song was later sampled for "Burn This City" by Lil Wayne and Twista.
